Mike Campbell Rocks San Francisco

If you are unfamiliar with Mike Campbell, he was Tom Pettys guitarist since he joined Mudcrutch in 1970, in Florida. Still with Petty in 1976 in Florida, he became a founding member of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers along with, Benmont Tench, Stan Lynch and Ron Blair. This group of musicians went on to make musical magic for the next nearly fifty years as the band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers! Mike Campbell co-wrote, collaborated, recorded and toured with Tom Petty for just short of five decades. And many of the Tom Petty songs we know and love were co-written by Campbell and Petty, much like a Lennon and McCartney or John and Taupin song writing team. The 50 year brotherhood between the two was apparent. Ending with Tom Pettys death on October 2 2017. In April 2022 Mike Campbell came to San Francisco on tour with his band, The Dirty Knobs. They played two shows mid month, and the show felt oddly similar to a Petty show. Campbells' Florida drawl was like listening to Tom Petty. His mannerisms and music were also so similar to the familiar Petty we all know and love. And when he played, (old school) for three hours, rocking the roof off The Independent venue. Opening for Campbell and touring with him, was the talented 21 year old singer songwriter, Sammy Brue from Utah. See The Music Soup blog with a blog and interview from Sammy.
