Be the Magic, and other Xmas Bits

The holidays are a great magnifier - for joy when life is going well, and for pain when we feel lonely, are going through a breakup, find ourselves in a complicated family situation, or have lost a loved one. In times like these, the holidays can feel like a stark reminder of what you don’t have today.

One way to feel less alone is to realize you’re not alone. You’re in good company. And like the others in your situation, you get to decide what kind of energy you want to bring to your own complicated Christmas.

Even if this doesn’t look like your ideal holiday, what you can do right now is decide whether you’re going to be an author of magic or a seeker of magic.

Seekers of magic wait for things to change. They wait for the conditions to be right before they bring a certain energy to their life.

Authors of magic decide to create magic in imperfect situations. They create magic where they are, even when life isn’t ideal. Ask yourself: “With whatever situation I’m in right now, what’s my own modest little work of art that I could create now? What’s a way I could inject magic into my day?”

Your magic doesn’t have to be some grand gesture. It could look like treating yourself with compassion rather than defaulting to beating yourself up. Or perhaps you could use the pain you’re experiencing to give compassion to a struggling friend. There are people out there who need your light, energy, and magic because they’re not strong enough to find it or give it to themselves right now.

Never forget that even when things are difficult, you can still find a way to connect to the magic. And the best way—the most reliable way—of doing that is to be the magic.

What magic will you create where you are today?

Whatever life is like for you right now, happy holidays, friend. I hope this message brought a little magic into your life today. Pass it on ♥️. - Written by M. Hussey
