'Twas a seemingly normal Friday night...then I attended a Rockabilly show in Sonoma with Deke Dickerson and Jinx Jones and it got way more fun! Jinx Jones and the Kingtones opened the show. A trio with Robin Roth, a female drummer, (something I always love), and Todd Jenkins on stand up bass. The trio played a great set and got people dancing. A little background about Jinx Jones...He has worked with Chuck Berry amongst many other first class musicians, and he's received gold and platinum record awards for his work with En Vogue. He has also been nominated twice for the Best Male Rockabilly Artist of the year by Ameripolitan Music Awards.

Deke Dickerson and his Whippersnappers were up next and the fun continued. Dekes' band, (The Whippersnappers) consist of younger musicians from L.A.. Bert Avalos on guitar, Zander Griffith on stand up bass, and Dylan Patterson on drums. Although they all started on those instruments at the beginning of the gig...throughout the set they were swapping guitars for the bass and back again. Deke gave the spotlight to each of his band members during his set. During the set, Deke told interesting stories that were warm, funny (and at times a little macabre), but all thoroughly entertaining. At the end of Dekes set, Jinx Jones came out and they played the last few songs together.

Unfortunately, this show was poorly attended, sadly, as I think the two bands appeal and fun factor would've put smiles on the faces of many. But Sonoma Countys' attendance is sometimes hit and miss, and honestly, I think of bunch of people really missed out on a great show! I'd definitely see these bands again, next time they come by. There are videos of this show on my You Tube chanel, and more to come, so please have a look and subscribe! youtube.com/@TheMusicSoupVideo?sub_confirmation=1
