Healdsburg Jazz Festival took place on June 17-25, 2023. They celebrated their 25th year with nine days of concerts in the beautiful wine country. The festival showcased todays hottest artists in the Jazz world. Artists such as NEA Jazz Master, Dianne Reeves and Grammy Award winner Samara Joy both performed on different days at the festival.
I attended the performance of percussion maestro John Santos at the Raven Theater in Healdsburg. The evening began with a screening of a documentary about the percussionist. Then Santos and others were onstage on a panel discussing the film and answering questions from the audience. After the Q & A, the live performance began with Santos and his nine piece band. Great performance and a very grateful HJF audience.
The festival itself was well attended and beautifully organized. There were both ticketed and free concerts at the festival over the nine days with performances from established artists and newer artists that are paving the way for the future of jazz. If Jazz is your thing, I'd highly suggest paying attention to next years' itinerary when it is announced, and attending if you haven't yet done so.
