Shifty Returns to the Bay!

A Foo Fighter steps out on his own when he's not out touring with the band.

When the Foo Fighters aren't touring the world, their guitarist, Chris Shiflett tours with his own band. KC Turner presents at the Hopmonk Novato got to host him for the second year in a row for the Cookout Series on September 20.

I'm a big Foo fan, so seeing this show was a must for me. I got to chat with Chris breifly before and after the show, so I was happy. In May I also saw him play at BottleRock and the set he played then was a tad twang heavy though he does play a mix of multiple genres. On this performance I thought it was less twang, and more rock.

Chris Shiflett definitley enjoys playing music for an audience. His set included genres from country to rock. No Foo Fighters music, which seemed to surprise many people I spoke to. I never expected any Foo Fighters tunes but always curious as to what will be on Shiftys setlist. The tunes he chose to play included originals and covers from artists such as Merle Haggard, to The Rolling Stones. Chris Shiflett also has plenty of his own tracks that he played. It was a nice mix of the familiar and new (to my ears).

His band is a three piece, including bass player Fox Fagan and drummer Robert Jolly. All three musicians are great and everyone seemed to have fun at the gig, including yours truly....but I think Shifty may have had the most fun of all!

Opening the show was Bella Rayne and Alex Jordan playing with her band. Bella Rayne is one of those young talented guitarists at only 17 years old. And then the Megan Slankard Band (above) took the stage before Shifty. Megan Slankard's' music was a cool mix of modern rock with a flavour of old school punk. All good music at this show!
