Drums, Drummers and Drumming!

Updated: May 4

Thrones of Fire - the ultimate show for drum enthusiasts!

This was a very rare show one doesn't see a lot....with all drums. Thrones of Fire was for drum lovers like me, it was an awesome way for drum enthusiasts to spend three hours!

It showcased about 25 drummers, choosing their own track to drum with, onstage at the Hopmonk Tavern in Novato. A show put on by Daniel Kushner, of TandemDrums.com.

This is Gina Newell. She is in her sixties, and worked at Safeway for 44 years. Gina recently retired. So she went back to her first love-the drums!

The drummers chose a wide variety of tunes to drum with from all genres including Foo Fighters, Slayer, Paramore, Rage Against the Machine, Deftones and more, including several tunes from the Police. Every drummer showcased their own talents behind the drum kit, and even a few stick twirlers showing their talents. One of my favorites of the show, was when a 15 year old girl took the throne and absolutely crushed it, then the next drummer was her dad. Then, whilst watching a drummer onstage, and his 6 year old son was in front of me air drumming exactley what his dad was playing with near perfection. And the little one had his timing down to a tee!

The show featured a Q & A with Daru Jones (Jack Whites' drummer).

Daniel Kushner (organizer of the event), said, "THRONES was a concept I've been dreaming about for a while, and I decided this is the year to launch it in celebration of Tandem's three year anniversary. The goal of the event is to expand and inspire the drumming community by creating an inclusive, fun, and encouraging atmosphere where drummers of all ages and levels can experience the thrills and challenges of playing live. Based on the feedback we received, the event was successful, and we look forward to building on this idea moving forward." (And I look forward to the next event similar to this one!) The event was created and presented by Tandem Drums, with additional sponsors including Evans Drumheads, Promark, and MONO. The participants and their songs of choice:

Always remember....Take care of each other. Be kind, because you never know what someone's going through. Reconnect with that person, because you never know how great it may turn out. Take a chance, because living with regret is not fun. Have gratitude for each day, and hold love and in your heart. Love truly. Forgive quickly. Kiss slowly. Never regret something that made you smile. And always remember...time is short and gets shorter every day. As always...support live music! (And turn up the volume!)
