Mike Cambell co-wrote, collorated, recorded and toured with Tom Petty for nearly 50 years. And many of the Tom Petty songs we know and love we co written by Campbell and Petty, much like a Lennon and McCartney or John and Taupin song writing team.

The 50 year brotherhood between the two was apparent. Ending with Tom Pettys death on October 2 2017.

In April 2022 Mike Campbell came to San Francisco on tour with his band, The Dirty Knobs.
They played two shows mid month, and the show felt oddly similar to a Petty show. Campbells' Florida drawl was like listening to Tom Petty. His mannerisms and music were also so similar to the familiar Petty we all know and love. And when he played, (old school) for three hours, rocking the roof off The Independent venue.
